(For the previous parts in this travelogue, see Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 and Day 4)
Nothing much to report on Day 5, only that we had to wake up at an ungodly hour of 5.30am (3.30am Malaysian time) to catch and early flight. We spent the night before trying an almost impossible task of packing everything into our luggage bags (too much gifts and stuff!). Woke up, ate our breakfast and checked out. Checking out was a breeze, it was only a matter of dropping our keycards with the security guard (the front desk doesn’t open until 9am). We drove our little Nissan Tiida down the Gold Coast Highway one last time, pumped full petrol at the Caltex station enroute, and reached the airport in less than 15 minutes.
Got through security (i had to be scanned for explosives. Really? ME?) and just in time for boarding. Flight back felt a little longer than going, since it was in the day time.
So in conclusion, everyone had a fantastic time in Gold Coast. We also felt it was too short a time, maybe another day or two would have been just right. One day to really relax by the beach, and maybe another day in Lamington or Springbrook. If we had a further 2 days we’d spend it visiting Brisbane or further hinterland. But of course, we are thankful for the trip, the good weather and the safety throughout.
Will we go back to Gold Coast? Definitely, maybe in 5 to 6 years time. But of course, after this, Sydney / Melbourne is more pressing… or Christchurch in Middle Earth.
