How To Pass The Time At The Office Until 5pm
Published by simon on October 25, 2007Pat asked why i don’t do lists anymore. Well, subpoena from David Letterman notwithstanding, here’s one.
If you are bored at the office with nothing to do, there are a lot of things you can do to pass the time until the all-important 5.00pm when you can scoot off. If you have internet without company firewall, all the better. Don’t have Internet access, change your job. No, I’m kidding, there are also ways to pass the time, but few of them are legal.
Armed with a PC and broadband (forget about dial-up) here’s some ideas:
- Go on Facebook and throw sheep at all your friends. Or play Scrabulous.
- Play Desktop Tower Defence. And tell me how to defeat the ‘Hard’ level. Make sure you turn the sound off in the office.
- Change your blog template (for WP users, try here). Don’t worry, we all know you update your blog (or blogs) at work already.
- Trap the cat. Trust me, it’s not as difficult as it looks.
- Search for aliens. No, real aliens out there.
- Get out of the room. (yeah, I know it’s old)
- Read my archives. It will be life-changing.
- Learn GIMP. It’s easy to learn and an excellent skill to have, trust me. Besides, it’s free.
- Since googlewar is no longer around, try Googlefight.
- Or try Googlewhacking… it’s fun. Managed to get a few some years back.
- Try to beat Venus Williams with Kimiko Date…
- Or laugh at something you shouldn’t…
Okay that should carry you to 4.30pm easily. Tomorrow we try something else. Fridays pass faster…

Another way to stay awake until 5pm is to visit good sites such as my blog!
simple solution, go back early la.. ha ha
yep i used to like to go to facebook but then i suddenly realise that at the mini feed news, it will mentioned whatever you do (yes, throw sheep or when you and so and so are friends) with the time. i began to get paranoid… what if my colleagues or worst boss sees it… and wonder why was i at facebook during office hours.
so i stop doing things at facebook during office hours (but i do visit it to look see).

lucia - that’s true. but scrabulous doesn’t show up on the mini feed… or you can change your settings of facebook.

I’ve got a few choice ones, I’ve seen them with my own eyes:-
1. Gossip and chit chat until its time to go back.
2. Stand at the exit and wait for the time attendance system to show 5 pm.
3. Sell illegal 4-D to colleagues.
4. Play carrom.
5. Hold a party.
I’m there with you on number one: superpoking and rock, paper & scissors is how I pass the time ;P
Lucia: you can remove/hide any of the mini feed news that you do not want people to see by clicking on each of the x on your profile page.
Simon, you really are wonderful person. I already hooked with Desktop Tower Defence. This morning play it for about one hour before I finally closed the browser for good.

hmmm, wake up at 12 pm, have a brunch at 2pm, then watch a dvd until 5pm
12.30pm, buy some share from klse
3.30pm check the share price and see whether hold or sell.
4.30pm check the share market see got any valuable and affortable share to buy or not, also do some final selling.

Easyway out…if u cannot pass your time here..u shudnt be here…
