Elim Gospel Hall, Ipoh

Was there yesterday for a wedding. I think it’s one of the most traditional of the English-speaking Protestant churches in Ipoh.

The old wooden pews with armrests – for keeping everyone sitting apart from one other, I suppose. The broken stone tiles is exactly like the ones at my old home!

This is the ancient timber building right next to the church, which houses the library and a kitchen. Not sure what’s upstairs.

I guess only a builder like me would appreciate the craftsmanship of the construction!

Convent Ave Maria just right next door. I had an ex-colleague from this school, wonder where she is now. Ave Maria means Hail Mary in Latin.

Some abandoned shophouses directly facing Elim. Gives character to Ipoh’s old town. Looking at them now, i can only imagine the days when this was a hub of activity, and the lives that stayed in those shoplots all those years ago, their hopes and dreams.

And once more, I bid adieu to the city built on tin nestled among the beautiful limestone hills.
