Remember this?
It’s the same type of shoes we wore to school when we were younger. Well, almost all of us. The richer kids had the Pallas velcro shoes, the ‘mat rock’s wore the high cut variety but this is was the standard.
Saw this vintage series at a shoe store recently, good to know Bata is producing it again.
I remember it was a lot cheaper than RM29.90 though.
Brings back memories of me painting it with Kiwi Blanco shoe whitener in front of my house every week… and using the teacher’s chalk to cover the black scruffs during class.

The Bata Badminton Master used to cost RM3.99 in the 1970s. School kids were happy to wear these shoes then as they were considered quite fashonable and “pricey”. The poorer kids would go for the Fung Keong shoes which used to cost RM1.99. The rich ones would wear the Bata Tennis (Lawn) Master priced at RM4.99 and would be the envy of their classmates!. These prices may seem cheap by today’s standards but remember that in the early 1970s, a bank clerk’s pay was only about RM300. Those were the days!

I remember the Fung Keong shoes! I used to see people wear their Japanese slippers everywhere. Ah, of course, Bata purveyed the ‘harga Bata’ trend, all prices end with 99 sen!

I used to wear bata, they were an upgrade from the China made shoes that I used to had. Drangon fly or Great wall? Anyway during my time, Batas were not that cheap, they not cheap either now 🙁 But it have improved with time and new owner (thats what I have been told)
I am wearing one now actually. Got in on sale 49.90. Sole broke after 6 months (me and shoes!) and got it fixed by cobbler by the road side. $30.00 for a new sole. Wat the?? I like it… so it was ok :))

BoonMing – no prob, man… yep Bata shoes are cool! 🙂
mahagurusia – i use power mostly nowadays, which actually by Bata also. Their running shoes won’t last longer than a year. But cheap lor…

Err … I still wear Bata shoes to work but the quality quite crap lah. Never had one that lasted more than 1 year. And the work shoes are quite expensive.
I use to wear a Pallas Jazz in the early nineties. Those were damn good shoes. Lasted me quite a number of years, and I think they still make them but are quite difficult to find now.

Wow….these are still around? I actually liked the red-soled ones but my Mum wanted me to be more ladylike (as it is, I have big feet!) so she didn’t mind paying extra for the Pallas Zap-Ons. In later years, I bought myself the Pallas with shoelaces to fulfill my unfilled shoe fantasy earlier LOL
simon
Yeah its a vintage series sold in some Bata shops. I think the Pallas Zap Ons are still around too.
