Post Election 2008: Dawn of A New Era

What a beautiful day it is!

Well, i didn’t really believe it before yesterday, we succeeded. Denied the 2/3 majority. Captured the Pearl of the Orient, 2 Malay heartland states Perak (my wife’s state) and Kedah (TM’s state) and Selangor where i voted.

I used to follow the Tanjung I, II, III campaigns back in the 80’s and 90’s when Kit Siang and Tiger of Jelutong Karpal Singh tried unsuccessfully to capture the state. But Kit Siang managed to defeat the aging Lim Chong Eu in a historic moment.

But i think what happened last night (this morning, more like – we were up until about 4.30am) was really beyond the realistic expectations of the Barisan Rakyat Leaders.

More shocking was Selangor – the richest state in Malaysia fallen to the underdogs. I can only forsee massive changes for all my friends working in the local councils. 🙂

Too bad my childhood state of Johor and my dad’s Melaka remained strongholds, but the time will come one day. If 10 years ago i told you Selangor would fall, you wouldn’t have believed it, would you? I definitely wouldn’t have, but now i dare to hope.

This elections, the long silent Christian minority have come of the woodwork to campaign quietly for what is perceived as direct attacks on our religious freedom. Each in their own way. Some stepped up to stand for election, some worked behind the scene. But most of us prayed together, and campaigned stealthily through the Net.

In all this, i have one question for our PM (as I know it, he still is the PM) : So, what now, Datuk Seri?
