“Like That Also Can Ah?!!”

A Change in The Scenery

Published by simon on August 13, 2007

It’s been an eventful two and a half months in my life, even if it hasn’t really shown in this blog, it really has been.

For one, i have just changed jobs, after 3 long years in my previous job. I know three years isn’t a long time for a lot of people, but it sure felt like a long, long time for me. From the day i joined, it was pretty much a temporary job, since i was desperate to get away from my previous employer.

Lo and behold, before i knew it, almost 3 years had pass… actually, to be frank, after a few months on the job, i had started to apply for other positions. It was until about early this year that i started looking seriously, because in many ways my job had become untenable.

The job was difficult, that was one of the main reasons. The other reason was that KLCC (where my head office is) was very far from my place, and the project is even further, twice the distance. Imagine the amount of travelling i had to make daily, having to wake up at 6.30am (what an ungodly hour!) and be in the office or site by 8am.

Then there is the hours. Being someone who treasures his time with his family, i am finding it increasingly difficult to put in 60+ hours a week for something i don’t particularly enjoy, so that was a definite push factor.

The other reason was my boss, but let’s not get into that. Some things are best left unsaid…!

Anyway, i had to give up my company car and my notebook and a higher pay, but at least things are a lot better (in some ways) at my new job. But it’s only been 2 and a half months, so i’ll reserve my comments.

Quite a lot of change has been happening due to the new job, more on it the next time…

  1. pelf Said,

Aww.. I understand about “all the travelling”. My cousin gets up at 6pm so that she could leave her house at 6:30am to reach the office (@ KLCC) at 7am but office hours start at 8am.

And don’t get me started on what time she leaves the office and gets home.

Anyway, Congratulations on your new job, and cheers to a happy working life :)

  2. Pat Said,

Actually, the Smart Tunnel really made it easier to get to KL, but the toll was quite expensive.

Didn’t realize you were working such long hours, I seldom see you on Saturdays, so I didn’t know Sunday was your only rest day.

Anyway, glad that you have more time with your daughters now :)

  3. simon Said,

Pat - now you know why i dislike long meetings after church…!

  4. Ann Said,

Simon - There was one day your daughter sighed that daddy has to work AGAIN!!! So, I am really glad that you don’t have to work Sat/Sun now.

  5. Ponytail Said,

I am leaving soon too, just tendered my resignation yesterday. I gotta wake up at 5:50am just to make ends meet. So, its goodbye KLCC, I will only miss the shoppin part!
I hope the new job is a good choice - more hours at home after work.
Congrats on the new job and all the best!

    hi simon,
i agree with u, spending all the precious time with family is more important than work. afterall we only get to live once. appreciate and treasure the time we spend with our loved ones.

  9. Shan Said,

Good for you Simon. It goes to show that yes, money is necessary, but quality of life and job satisfaction are also equally important
