My Neighbour And The 3 Dogs
Published by simon on March 14, 2006My neighbour has 3 dogs. If you think that’s a lot, get this. They used to have 5. Some of my other neighbours complained to the landlord, so they got rid of two of the uglier shaggier ones. I think they gave it to their friends, so there’s three remaining now. The three aren’t dogshow material either, they aren’t exactly the types you see on the cover of Alpo tins or on those dog food commercials.
Before I go on, let me just say I love dogs, I grew up with two lovable mongrels. But the reason I don’t keep dogs now is that my house isn’t appropriate to rear dogs. Dogs need wide spaces to run and exercise and have fun, and my miniscule rent-control house with a lawn smaller than your office toilet isn’t suitable for any pets bigger than a rabbit.
But hey, that didn’t stop my neighbour. She could have kept smaller animals like hamsters, goldfish or anacondas, but no, she kept dogs. And their whole lawn in cemented and tiled, with not a blade of grass. Unless you count the moss growing in the dog’s supper bowl.
About the lawn. My neighbour isn’t at home the whole day, so the dogs are cooped indoors the whole day. So they eat, sleep, bark (boy, do they bark. Bark, and bark and bark. And howl.) and do pretty much everything. Including piss and shit. Therein lies the problem.
I can take the all-night barking, since I’m used to dogs, but my OTHER neighbours are pretty annoyed with the dog faeces all over their porch. Imagine how much 3 dogs eat in a day, so you can imagine how much faeces you get.
In addition to the flies and wonderful smell, the other problem is the dogs have found a way to sneak out of the wire mesh on the gate to go outside when the owner isn’t around. Then they shit outside, and in my other neighbours house. They never come into my house, probably the smell of stray anacondas at my place scare the bejasus out of the poor dogs.
Anyway, one day the dog went into my other peaceful loving neighbour’s house, then without them knowing it, they drove over it, splattering the shit all across their porch, unknowingly stepped on it, stepped into their expensive new car, you get the picture.
I can see you picturing it in your mind.
Anyway, the dogs are kind of nice to me. When I come home at night, they always poke their noses through the fence and wag their tails at me. Nice dogs. Only if you don’t look at the faeces all over the lawn.

My neighbor has 4. And the porch is a small place for 4 dogs. And they bark incessently. And it’s a terrace house.
I’m glad I study away from home.
you could always get together with the neighbours and call the town council or even the police. Everyone in the neighbourhood deserves their own peace and quiet.
come to think on it, i don’t even KNOW where my dog shits have gone to….. she’s got a special hiding place for it..ewww:D I’m sure my mother knows where and WILL clean it.;D
LOL. But i enjoyed reading your account. amazing how a mundane account of neighbour with too many dogs can transform into good reading material at the hands of a good blogger.
That’s not right la. I can’t stand irresponsible pet owners. They (the owners) are the real pests to society and should be the ones put to sleep!
I mean, I love dogs too, but being practical with the my apartment living conditions, I rear my monkey instead.
And was the stray anaconda named Simon by any chance? Heh.
anjali, the anaconda is called Brother Simon, muahahahar!
My neighbour’s dog likes to howl along with the call for worship from the neighbourhood surau 5 times a day.
rascher - 4 is a lot, man.
yuin - i think some of the neighbours complained already, but so far still the same.
jayelle - maybe it hides it like a booby trap. the one day…
anjali - i think smokey will object being called a monkey!!!
buaya69 - wah!!! liddat oso can ah!!!
U should complain to the SPCA. Dogs shouldn’t be allowed to live in such conditions.
3 is just too much no matter how he/she likes dog
My neighbour here has 2, he owns a big house. No, that’s not the problem. His dogs never stay at home!!! he always locks them outside whenever he goes to work and his dogs (last time they used to be white and cute, now they look like stray dogs) just roam around the neighbourhood shitting around. There’s another SUPER LARGE dog which is owned by the YB living nearby. And man, you don’t even wanna hear what happened to me…
Hmm…let’s see. I m in BIG trouble then. My house got 2, my side neighbour got 2, my neighbour in front also got 2, their neighbour also got 2, next to them also got 2. So, hmm…*speechless*
On the bright side, year of the Dog la, brings good chi
inevitable - i also know this guy that keeps 2… in an apartment. so everyday, he has to ‘walk the dog’. or else…
ken - tell us la!
obeliskdee - but i bet your dogs stay indoors and dun give their neighbours headache. yeah! year of the dog, so dog-owners should have a good year in 2006!
being chased by those 3 dogs simultaneously isn’t fun man… from that fateful day onwards, I’d rather go to the park to jog… Hahahahaha…
Once rented a room during my student days with a family with 2 “Beethoven” looking dogs - one mother, one son. After a year, the 3rd one moved in. This is to be dog girlfriend for dog son. One nite I came home around 3am, and dog girlfriend and dog son were humping silly and I tried opening the gates. Dog mother growled at me. Attempted again and several times, she growled and was ready to pounce on me. I didn’t get into my house that night and had to sleep over elsewhere : ( I hate dogs.
Yeah, dogs need space and there is no way 3 dogs can survive unless you have a huge compound.

I would love to hear more about this …
Its not the amount of dogs that are kept more often then not its the owners. I used to have 3 dogs now i have 2 one died of cancer & i get on superb with my neighbours maybe something to do with how i bring up my dogs. You just have to look how some people bring up kids some kids you would prefer the dogs. I do have simpathy for anyone who has to put up with bad neighbours whether kids or dogs ect.
