12 Things I Learnt Watching American Sitcoms

Twelve Things I Learnt Watching American Sitcoms:

  • Whatever problem you have in life, it will surely be solved in 25 minutes.
  • People rarely die. Even if they did, it would be on “A Very Special Episode of…”
  • Once a year, somebody really famous like a singer/movie star/wrestler will appear on the show (to which the studio audience will cheer and clap hysterically when they appear for 3 minutes).
  • When they order Chinese take-out food, it always come in those strange-looking cubic boxes. (Unlike here where they come in cheap Styrofoam boxes.)
  • American kids bring home their friends to do homework together. Except they don’t always just do homework.
  • American suburb houses don’t have fences.
  • Babies strangely grow from 1-year old in one season to a talking 4-year old in the next season.
  • All American families live in big, spacious houses/apartments, beautifully furnished, no matter how rich or poor they are. (Except ‘Malcolm in the Middle’)
  • Even if you’re an out-of-job actor, masseuse or waitress, you can afford to wear new, different and beautiful clothes everyday of the year, for 10 years.
  • Home-delivered pizza in America is really cheap (unlike here). In fact people there can eat it every night.
  • Every office in America has at least one black/Asian/Latino/ethnic minority worker that only gets to say one or two lines of funny stuff per episode (Unless it’s a black comedy then it’s the other way around).
  • American children don’t look anything like their parents.

Ya lah, everything is so fake what in those movies. The funniest part is that they must solve all the problems in 25 minutes, inclusive of advert time.
