Been doing some blog housekeeping recently. It started more than a month ago, when i read ahPek‘s problems with his wordpress, which made me finally upgrade to WordPress 2.1finally, after almost 2 years on the old 1.5.2 (I think…). Of course, with the new wordpress, there was lots of stuff to explore, after such a loo-ooong time of not tinkering with my blog’s innards. Anyway that kept me entertained for awhile. So the other day, being a very slow day, i decided to try out Feedburner. I had actually signed up with them for more than two years, back when i my blog was syndicated on the sidebar of the…

Elim Gospel Hall, Ipoh
Was there yesterday for a wedding. I think it’s one of the most traditional of the English-speaking Protestant churches in Ipoh. The old wooden pews with armrests – for keeping everyone sitting apart from one other, I suppose. The broken stone tiles is exactly like the ones at my old home! This is the ancient timber building right next to the church, which houses the library and a kitchen. Not sure what’s upstairs. I guess only a builder like me would appreciate the craftsmanship of the construction! Convent Ave Maria just right next door. I had an ex-colleague from this school, wonder where she is now. Ave Maria means Hail…

Because The Night
For those of you who ever listen to Singapore FM stereo during the early 90’s, you might remember the show ‘The A-List’ on The Perfect Ten 98.7FM. At that time, format radio was just taking off in Singapore, model after the Fox station in Australia (from which I think the current Astro radio channels follow, too). At that time, format radio was not heard of in Malaysia yet, we were still stuck with [tag]Janet Ambrose[/tag] on the Blue Network / Radio 4. In the post grunge era of the early 90’s, ‘The A-List’ (hosted by the laidback Suresh Menon) focused on an emerging sub-genre called ‘modern rock’, a term that…

50 Questions
Saw at Visithra‘s. Enjoyed it so much i nicked it for my blog! She got it from Dreams & Sugar and then from BawangMerah, so it’s a bit of a read and pass it on, eh. 1. FAVORITE MOVIES? Too many. If i were to name the first few from the top of my head – Kramer vs. Kramer, The Breakfast Club, Good Morning Vietnam, Moulin Rouge… My problem is that i don’t watch movies more than once, even if i find it very good. Once is enough, and i remember it forever. 2. DO YOU OWN A GUN? Nope. 3. WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST ENEMY? boredom. with nothing to…

Top Ten Signs That It’s Getting Too HOT In Malaysia These Days
Man, it’s hot these days. I can’t sleep at night without sweating, and my colleagues don’t go out for lunch anymore because ‘it’s just too hot’. I dunno, global warming is one thing, I feel like I’m living in a microwave these days. Top Ten Signs That It’s Getting Too HOT In Malaysia These Days Even the tudung-clad makciks selling nasi lemak outside my office under the hot sun are wearing miniskirts. Even the Bahrain Formula One GP is now branding themselves as ‘The Second Hottest Race On Earth – There’s No Way Our Desert Is Hotter Than KL!’ Malay stall operators start flipping burgers on the bonnets of their…

If You Are SERIOUS About Exercising (Single minded tenacity)
My have lots of fond memories about my uni days, but one of my roommates is NOT one of them. Back in our day we all stay in the dorm (unless you were filthy rich) and the our rooms numbers and roomies were chosen for us, but usually we ended up with our coursemates, so we can ‘study together’ (yeah right). Anyway, one of the years, i was paired up with this guy i wasn’t really close with, let’s call him Joe. He was a bit of an introvert and loner, his social skills went as far as poking the girls from the back and asking, “What your name ah?”…

I Lift My Eyes To The Hills
Dedicated to the families and friends of the victims of the Virginia Tech tragedy. I lift up my eyes to the hills— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the LORD will…

“Air Mata Kucing”
This joke I read in Gila-Gila many years ago: Boy 1 is drinking something from a glass labeled ‘Air Mata Kucing’. Boy 2 looks on. Boy #1: “Saya tak faham la…†Boy #2: “Apa tu?†Boy #1: “Macam mana mereka buat kucing menangis…?†Boy #2: *bengang* Or something like. You had to be there to find it funny. Okay, fine, Gila Gila was never as funny as Mad Magazine, but it had it’s moments. Second thought of the day: Maybe it’s called ‘Air Mata Kucing’ because it is popular with cops from that East Malaysian state capital. Yes, it’s corny, but today’s Wednesday.

Review: American Gods by Neil Gaiman
First notes – i used to have a book blog, but i’ve decided to stop maintaining it since last November. The whole idea of having a book blog in the first place was to motivate myself to read books, at least 2 or 3 every month, and maybe once in awhile post some literary-related news. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out – i’m no bibliobibuli, reading a couple of books a month was tough enough, and then i was mostly unmotivated to write a review about them. But so, i decided if i ever wanted to write any other book review, i’ll post them here in my primary personal blog, and…

If This Was My Last Post…
AhPek tagged on this really interesting one. The original meme was started by this dude called Urban Monk as part of a initiave called the Blog Apocalypse, and he will donate some money for every blogger who follows this thread and links back to him. The scenario is this… Bloggers: The blogosphere is coming to an end. You have one last post. What is it going to be? What is the final summary of your blog? What is the one last gem that you want to leave with your readers? Hmm… the concept of the blogosphere ending is a little harder to visualize, unlike global warming. What would cause this…
