    Remembering Whitesnake

Back in the hair-[tag]metal[/tag] days of the 80’s, most of the mat rocks I knew were all into the bands like Motley Crue, Poison, Bon Jovi, LA Guns, and a whole load of ’em poodle rock bands. But the serious metal fans (as paradoxical as that sounds), well, they were into Whitesnake. I dunno, in the whole hair metal scene, [tag]Whitesnake[/tag] were quite different. Maybe because they were British, but so were Def Leppard, but there was something that set them apart. In retrospect, i can guess it was because of [tag]David Coverdale[/tag], the lead singer (and leader) of the band, that was the driving force (and only member to…

    The State of Our Newspapers

I’m joining the MSM (mainstream media) boycott. (For the background to it, you can read it all here) But beside the fact that they print lies and blatant propaganda, i have another reason to wean off buying it. Our newspapers are basically crap. Let’s look at NST and the Star. Look, the local news about politics and stuff are not worth reading, besides, both papers tell the same story, different writer. As for the sports pages and international news, they all come from the same syndicated foreign news agencies. Unless you one of the 5 people who actually read local sports news, but let’s face it, the day Astro came…

Forget American Idol, Watch ‘Across the Universe’

Has anyone been watching American Idol? I have, and it’s been a pretty disappointing season. They keep touting it as ‘the best talent we have so far’ (how do they justify that?) and had two weeks of Beatles’ themed shows. I can’t believe Paul McCartney would have been anywhere near impressed with the performances, especially this weeks’. Anyway, he’s probably too busy with his divorce problems… I just watched Across the Universe lately, and if you want to see the Beatles’ music honoured in a dignified way, watch the movie instead. If you haven’t watched it yet, i won’t divulge any details, but it’s basically a love story set across…

Top Ten Reasons for Shocking Political ‘Tsunami’

I find it funny they used the term ‘tsunami’. Tsunamis are natural occurences, without any warning until the preceding few minutes. What happened on Saturday was self-inflicted, and warning signs were there since the last two years. Go figure. Now, before reading on, you DO know what satire means, right? Top Ten Reasons for Shocking Political ‘Tsunami’ Ruling Party did not forsee the huge swing of vote from their most loyal segment – the DEAD VOTERS. On one hand, from the ruling party, you have slickly produced TV ads that cost millions of dollars but treat us like idiots. On the OTHER hand, the opposition had uber-cool guerilla marketing-style Youtube…

Post Election 2008: Dawn of A New Era

What a beautiful day it is! Well, i didn’t really believe it before yesterday, we succeeded. Denied the 2/3 majority. Captured the Pearl of the Orient, 2 Malay heartland states Perak (my wife’s state) and Kedah (TM’s state) and Selangor where i voted. I used to follow the Tanjung I, II, III campaigns back in the 80’s and 90’s when Kit Siang and Tiger of Jelutong Karpal Singh tried unsuccessfully to capture the state. But Kit Siang managed to defeat the aging Lim Chong Eu in a historic moment. But i think what happened last night (this morning, more like – we were up until about 4.30am) was really beyond…

The Time is Now. Vote Wisely.

Vote wisely, my friends. The time is now, to make a stand for our future, for our children’s future. So many of our friends have emigrated for a better life, but for those who choose to stay, or have no other choice, let’s make a difference. As my good friend Patrick says, We want accountability. We want to fully exercise our religious freedom. Even after we die. We are sick of racial discrimination. We are sick of corruption and cover-ups, and the lies of the mainstream media. *** One a brighter note, eyeris posted an excellent piece on the election using only movie posters. I was also delighted to find…

    Firefly: Adventures With the Serenity

If there a better reason why i’m been away from blogging, it’s because i’ve found a new distraction. Yep, I’m caught up with watching Firefly. It’s a sci-fi TV series that lasted only one season in the US, but just like so many shortlived series, it has its own cultic following. I’ve always been a fan of the creator Joss Whedon, having never missed an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer all through through the seven seasons. Firefly is a space cowboy adventure about the Firefly-class transporter named Serenity and it’s seven crew members, led by their captain Mal Reynolds. The trademarks of Whedon is evident here – ragtag ensemble…

Top Ten Things Overheard During the 12th Malaysian General Election Campaign

The 12th Malaysian General election is here again, i’m definitely casting my vote. Hope there won’t be a repeat of the fiasco the last time around, when all of us had to wait for 4 hours in the blazing sun only to find our names were NOT on the electoral list. I only got to vote (at 4pm in the afternoon) when i followed a rumor that they had changed my polling station to another school at the last mnute. Anyway, come March 8, please go and vote. After that, you can join me at the coffeeshop for a mid-morning break. Top Ten Things Heard During the 12th Malaysian General…
