WordPress database error: [Can’t open file: ‘wp_comments.MYI’ (errno: 144)]

I didn’t have time to go online this morning, i only got the chance at lunchtime. When i went into my WordPress admin page, i saw a couple of errors on the top of the screen

It also appeared in the ‘comments’ section on the right sidebar, with a different refering description, but basically by the same error.

I checked the Manage / Posts and Manage / Comments page, and the same error appeared everywhere.

Ouch, I thought. Another WP error. I’ve actually been through a few of these before, but not this particular one. First thing i did was to check when was my last backup of the database. I remember it was very recent, and thankfully it was only 2 days ago (and before that, well, probably a few months. Important lesson – backup regularly.)

Okay, i knew it looked serious, but i kinda knew most of the time these things can be fixed easily provided you knew how. And I had no idea. I looked through my files in the database, but I couldn’t find the particular file there. After about 10 minutes, i realized i had to go off for an important meeting, i seriously needed some help here. So i took some screencaps of the error, sent it to LiewCF for help, and logged off (LiewCF‘s dug me out of trouble a few times before).

By the time I logged back on at about 7 in the evening, he had found a lead for me, which was at this site called Blogger Design.

Although I’ve never been into my MySQL database admin area, it seemed reasonable clear instructions for me to follow, and voila! it was fixed. Thanks to a million to LiewCF (if i have the chance, let me buy you teh tarik tomlo, k?) and [tag]Blogger Design[/tag].

Important Lesson of The Day for me – Googling up your blogging problem can wield surprising answers.
