Filler Post #395: Afternoon Delight

Ever since Sun Yin Loong coffeeshop increased their prices by 20sen earlier this year, i’ve stopped going there even though they’ve got the best brew in town. Last Monday was a pretty slow day (post holiday blues) so i couldn’t resist having a cup to pass the time until 5pm. While I was there, might as well indulge in the egg on toast. Mmmm, can you smell the cholestrol…? :)

Time passes slower for me at the office, especially in the sleepy afternoons.

Going For a Short Weekend Holiday

Published by on November 19, 2008

Following cc‘s style, I’m putting a teaser for you guys to guess where I’m gonna be for the next few days. Of course, nothing like cc’s trip to China, mine’s a local holiday only :)

Shouldn’t be too difficult to guess, right? I should get my brollies ready…

My First Cup of Coffee After 31 Days

Published by on November 13, 2008

Due to thermogenics, I had to restrain from coffee for a month. If anyone who has ever done thermogenics, you would know they have an unbelieveable high level of caffeine, so you can’t take coffee, tea, or even soft drinks.

Considering I usually ingest up to 3 cups of coffee a day since I was in secondary school, this required a little more discipline than i thought.

But anyway, the one month ended last week, so I finally could have my favourite cuppa. Had to savour it.

My favourite brand. Nothing like the coffeeshop brew, but this will have to do.

There were a few occasions I couldn’t tahan so I had to nick a few cups of this decaf from my sister’s bottle. Decaf tastes awful, REALLY awful. I wouldn’t even call it coffee.

Anyway, the 3-in-1 goes into a large mug.

Add a dash of low fat milk to soften the bitter taste.

Add boiling hot water and stir. One important thing I learnt about coffee, ALWAYS use piping hot water. Never lukewarm, it never really tastes the same.

One satchet makes a full cup. Wait for it to cool, tho…

Mmmm… Coffee… Always tastes good. Especially after one month of detox…

Irony

Malaysiakini‘s Zunar is probably one of the funniest political cartoonist since Lat (are they even any others?). This one is exceptionally ironic, worth a mention here.

I like the pointed sarcasm on hypocrisy. Pak Lah can pay all the lip service about equality and meritocracy he wants, but we all know the reality of it.

My First Ericsson Phone Back in 1996

Published by on November 5, 2008

Was rummaging in the cupboard for something the other day when i came across this.

It was my very first phone back in 1996! That was 12 years and 6 handphones ago, man… Back then almost everyone had an Ericsson phone. They had different variations of the basic model – some for PCN networks, some for GSM, some had flip-downs, etc. They pretty much had the market sewed up back then, and Nokia was a distant second.

The box was BIG. You can’t tell from the first pic, but here’s a comparison with the box for my new Sony Ericsson which i bought back in March. The old phone box looked like a Telekom TELEPHONE DIRECTORY.

Geez, look at the manuals! Apparently, phones back then were more complicated than flying a helicopter, hence the documentation.

Mutiara Telekom! Remember them? Access 016! For all your noobs, Mutiara is now called DiGi.

This is the phone. For some reason I can’t find the thick antenna. It looked like a piece of black chalk with a green band around it.

That black and grey sticker at the receiver is this device that was supposed to cut down on radiation. Yeah, I fell for that gimmick that cost me five bucks.

The super small screen. It fit only one line of text, and had a pretty cool green backlit screen. All the batteries were stone dead so i couldn’t get it switched on.

In comparison. Twelve years of technological advancement, side by side. Well, okay, my new phone isn’t the super slim type, so the diff isn’t very obvious.

I gonna trash the phone, since the batteries have already started to leak…
