Searching For ‘Wait Til Your Father Gets Home’

Published by on May 27, 2008

Ever had that feeling that you cherish something from your childhood, but nobody else you know remembers (or even knows) about it?

This is one of them.

I used to love watching the cartoon series ‘Wait Til Your Father Gets Home’ when i was a small kid (very small). It was made in the early seventies LOO-ONG before i was born, but i remember RTM2 showed it in the early 80′s on one the weekday afternoons.

It’s a cartoon series that’s a bit like the Simpsons, centering on the 5 members of the Boyle family and their eccentric neighbour, Ralph. The father, is voiced by Tom Bosley from The Happy Days. Off and on, celebrities would come on the show (in cartoon form, of course) much like the way The Simpsons does.

I remember the catchy opening song (full lyrics thanks to wikipedia). Each line is sung by a different member of the family:

I love my mom and my dad and my brothers too, and the groovy way we get along.
Every time the slightest thing goes wrong, Mom starts to sing this familiar song.
Wait till your father gets, until your father gets, wait till your father gets home.

Dad’s not so bad and he seldom gets mad.
And we’re not about to desert him.
Kids today like to have things their way, and what Daddy doesn’t know won’t hurt him.
I think Mom is swell.
But she starts to yell.
Every time we have a fuss.
Just wait till your father gets, until your father gets, wait till your father gets home.

See what I mean?
Wait till your father gets home.
We know.

Anyway, wikipedia tells me there is a DVD of the first season released, but I couldn’t find any torrent of it… I’d buy the original DVD, but you know how it is around here.

Youtube has a few clips of the opening theme (like here), and snippets of episodes but that’s about it.

Looking around the Internet lead me to a fascinating search about Hanna-Barbera, the company behind the show, and how all the rights to their cartoons now belong to Cartoon Network. Although i have Cartoon Network on my Astro subscription, i haven’t watched it for years, probably between my wife’s Wah Lai Toi and my kids’ Disney Channel, I NEVER get to watch anything else. But i do know that Cartoon Network does show some of their classic Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros cartoons at certain time slots.

Last week, when i was going through insomniac period, i came downstairs to watch TV at about 3 in the morning. They didn’t show any classics, they were showing those annoying cartoons from the 90′s like Courage the Cowardly Dog.

Maybe one day they’d rerun ‘Wait Til Your Father Gets Home‘…

Weekend at Port Dickson

Published by on May 21, 2008

Went to PD for the long weekend, 14 of us plus 5 babies, for our annual Living Fountain SG retreat.

Stayed at the new Avillion Admiral Cove, loved the hotel.

The weekend was pretty much food, swimming pool, food, beach, relaxing, and more food. I actually also watched some good movies (Red Sonja!) and spend most of the daytime trying to stay awake (i was having problems sleeping at night for the entire weekend).

Anyway, pictures = 1000 words.

And TM’s Next Course of Action will be…

So, Tun Mahathir has done the deed, leaving the party which he joined in 1946.

The main reason is of course Pak Lah, lah. Just the latest episode in the long running telenovela called Sandiwara Petang Hari Minggu.

So what’s he going to do now, besides horseback riding around Mines and watching ‘Eight is Enough’ DVDs?

Rumour on the street is that he’s planning to form a new political party called … UMNO Baru Baru.

You KNOW There Won’t Be Good News When…

Published by on May 14, 2008

Last month my head office had to retrench some staff due to specific reasons.

I wasn’t there, since i’m not stationed at the head office, but i figure the immediate superior or the HR manager would probably call the poor guy into the office and say, “i think you better sit down first…” or “You know the company’s not been doing well recently…”

You KNOW it’s not going to be good news when your boss starts with those lines.

Or when your girlfriend starts with “I think we need to talk…”

Or when the headmasters starts off with “it has come to my attention that…”

Or when the doctor tells you “How is your insurance plan?”

Or when my wife says to my daughter “tell daddy what happened in school today”.

Nope. it’s never good news. Because if it was good news, they tell you straightaway, without all this small talk.

Well i suppose it’s a lot better than my doctor saying, “If I were you, I wouldn’t start watching any new miniseries on TV, get my drift? Heheh…”

Well, it wasn’t all bad news, my colleague got a decent severance package from the retrenchment. Nothing helps soothes the bad news like moolah. Lots of it.

Saturday Night by Suede

Published by on May 6, 2008

It was some time in the mid 90′s, i was renting a room slightly bigger than a closet somewhere in SS2.

Everyday, i come home from work, plonk down onto my spring metal bed with the plywood-thin mattress (bought for RM22 at the pasar malam) and turn on my old 14″ TV sitting on the floor sitting next to my shoes (no money to buy TV stand).

Every weekday at the same time, i turn on the MetroVision (remember that defunct channel?) where they played Channel V’s Rewind, UK Top 20, with VJs like Trey and the fabulous Sophiya. It was on their UK countdown that introduced me to Suede and their song ‘Saturday Night’…

I immediately fell in love with that song.

Those days, i lived for weekends and Saturday nights in particular…

Listening to the song again brings chills to my body, Brett Anderson’s lilting, androgynous voice still sounds haunting, as he sings:

Today shes been working, shes been talking, shes been smoking,
But itll be alright,
Cos tonight well go dancing, well go laughing, well get car sick,
And itll be okay like everyone says, itll be alright and ever so nice,
Were going out tonight, out and about tonight.

today’s only tuesday, another 4 more days to saaaaturday…

Million Blog List: I am Number 1271

Published by on May 4, 2008

Here’s an interesting Internet experiment if you’ve nothing else to do.

Out of the 70million blogs out there in existence, and millions more created each day, want to the special one million?

I’m at number 1271. Nice number.

Get listed at www.millionbloglist.com

Thanks to Silencers for the idea.

On another note, has anyone noticed how HOT the weather’s been these past 2 weeks? I dunno, which do you prefer – torrential rain or melting heat?
