Beefing it Up at Las Vacas

Published by on October 17, 2011

Yesterday was our wedding anniversary. I had a wedding dinner on Saturday, so we decided to go for dinner on Sunday night itself. Sunday was a very long and tiring day. It started with the Fellowship Hall Duty in Seapark church. followed by Project Timothy from 2 to 5pm.

So for dinner, I had intended to go back to this place we like in IOI Boulevard, but recently I’m really into this thing about trying new things and broadening my horizons. So we tried this place called Las Vacas in Kelana Jaya. This relatively new restaurant opened in 2007, they have another branch in Mont’Kiara.

This halal restaurant specializes in beef steaks and burgers, and its very affordable as you can determine the weight of the meat that you order.

The location is the at the 2 rows of shoplots behind Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya. Very quiet and secluded. There used to be a well-known banana leaf rice restaurant called Sri Devi here, but has since closed.

The restaurant is spacious, but the decor could have been better though.

Beef, beef and more beef. They also have chicken and lamb if you’re not into eating dead cows. But mainly beef.

We order lattes. Coffee was just meh. They should get a real coffee machine like illy.

This was my wife’s grain-fed ribeye steak, about 200gms (RM55.45). Very sweet and juicy.

I took the 250gm beefburger (RM20) and Hannah had the 150gm burger (RM17).

Alyssa had the chicken hotdog (RM18). In hindsight, this wasn’t the best choice.

In total the bill came to RM135 for 4 people, very filling dinner and definitely one of the cheapest places to get fine steaks.

Aboard the Logos Hope, Port Klang

Published by on October 3, 2011

Woke up early Saturday morning and found out that the kids did not have to co-curriculum classes (what? really?! We have a Saturday free?!!) So immediately i told my wife “Let’s go visit Logos Hope!”

Actually, in all the many times Doulos has visited Malaysia, I have never had the chance to visit it, so it has been kind of a big regret for me. Now that Doulos has been decommissioned, i rather not miss the chance to visit Logos Hope this time around.

So after dim sum at my new favourite restaurant, we drove down straight all the way along the Kesas and arrived at the Cruise Centre.

Waiting to enter the parking. RM3 to park is a little steep, no?

The new Cruise Centre building. By the way, who’s Glenn?

lo1a

Lots of clear signage to point you to the right direction.

lo2

There it is at the end of a long jetty. That huge ship behind it is Superstar Virgo.

lo3

Man, Superstar Virgo is HUUUGE…

virgo

It actually looked a little weather-beaten up close.

lo4

First of all, a little short introduction to the ship.

lo3a

As far as bookshops go, its smaller than you’re average MPH. But just a slightly different selection of books. Lots of children books.

lo6

When we first arrive, the crowd was still manageable. After 10 minutes, it was really starting to get packed.

lo8

Taking photo with some guy with a big head.

lo7

The cafeteria had limited seating, plus ice-cream was RM5 per scoop, so we gave it a pass.

“Oi, up in front! Stop blocking the gangway! It’s drizzling!!!”

lo9

So all in all, it was just for the experience to visit Logos Hope and supporting their non-profit cause. Who knows how many years it will be for them to return here.
